Schmitt Earns ESPN All-Academic Nod

ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio forward Erika Schmitt has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Four women's soccer team. Schmitt, who was recognized on the first-team, holds a 3.92 GPA as a political science/pre-law and journalism major. On the field, the junior from Wyoming, Ohio, started all 19 games this season, playing 1119 minutes total. She led the team in goals with seven, after scoring only one goal in her first two years with the Bobcats while primarily playing defense. Schmitt scored two goals and assisted on Ohio's third in Ohio's 3-2 victory at Akron top close out the regular season, for which she earned her second MAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week award. Schmitt was an All-MAC First Team Selection this season as well. Other members of the ESPN All-Academic first team include Louisville goal keeper Joanna Haig, Alabama midfielder Kailey Corken, Michigan forward Katie Bohard, Memphis forward Kate Murphy and Auburn defender Jenn Johnson. Two other MAC student-athletes were also a part of the first team - Eastern Michigan's Sara Schiffbauer and Kent State's Lisa Kurz. Schmitt also was recognized by the MAC offices and coaches for her work in the classroom and play on the field - being named to the All-MAC Academic team. Joining her on the squad is teammate Mary McPhail, a senior defender and co-captain. McPhail, from West Des Moines, Iowa, has started every match for the Bobcats for two straight seasons and was named to the Dean's List.
