Ohio 8, Rider 0 (Five Innings)
WP: Savannah Jo Dorsey (2-1)
LP: Montana Berg (0-2)
HR: Lauren Gellerman 2 (3), Adrienne Gebele (1), Dakota Pyles (1)
Freshman pitcher Savannah Jo Dorsey threw a gem in Ohio's final game of the ECU Pirate Classic, recording a complete game, two-hit shutout of Rider. The native of Grove City, Ohio, showed great control within the circle, striking out seven batters while only walking one. Dorsey had a no-hitter going until the top of the fourth inning, when Allysen Breeden singled to the left side of the infield with one out.
On the offensive end of things, Lauren Gellerman (San Diego, Calif.) had a massive game. The senior went 2-3 at the plate, with both of her hits being home runs. Gellerman's two home runs brought around a game-high five RBI.
Ohio got on the board right away, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning. A walk by Alexia Cortez (Beaufort, S.C.) proved to be important, as Gellerman blasted a two-run shot just one batter later to put the `Cats on the board.
Dakota Pyles (Galloway, Ohio) registered her first career home run on Sunday, hitting a two-run shot in the bottom of the second inning to give the Green and White a 4-0 lead. Gellerman then came up with two outs in this inning and hit a three-run shot to center field, bringing around Biz Eyrise (Brookfield, Wis.) and Amanda Dalton (Salem, Va.) to score.
Ohio's final run of the game came via a solo shot from Adrienne Gebele (Annapolis, Md.) in the bottom of the third inning.
The Bobcats will next be in action on Friday, Feb. 15 at the 2013 Louisville Slugger Classic. Ohio will face two top-25 teams at this competition, opening the tournament against current No. 5 Oregon and No. 19 UCLA.
