ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio softball team managed only two hits in falling to Mid-American Conference opponent Northern Illinois 8-0 in six innings here today at the Ohio Softball Field.

The Bobcats fall to 24-34 on the season and 6-11 in conference action with the loss.

Ohio fell behind early, allowing single runs in the first and second innings to the Huskies. The Bobcats countered by putting a runner in scoring position in both the first three frames but were unable to push a run across.

Northern Illinois opened up its lead in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring five combined runs to go up 7-0. The Huskies added a single tally in the sixth inning to give the game its final margin.

Michelle Sauter (Chehalis, Wash.) took the loss for Ohio to fall to 11-15 on the season. Sauter pitched four innings and allowed four runs, only two earned, on six hits. Katlyn Mallette (Taunton, Mass.) pitched the final two frames, surrendering four runs on three hits.

The Bobcats will conclude their home schedule tomorrow with the finale of the two-game set with Northern Illinois. Emily Futscher (Cincinnati, Ohio), Maghan Lunsford (Centerville, Ohio), Robin Miller (Chagrin Falls, Ohio), Candace Warden (Hagerstown, Md.) and Shannon Weidner (Pickerington, Ohio) will be honored as part of Senior Day. The opening pitch is set for 1 p.m.
