DAYTON, Ohio – Ohio Softball played its final two non-conference games of the season on Wednesday, splitting a doubleheader at Wright State. The Bobcats lost the first game by a final score of 8-4 before picking up a 6-2 win in the second contest.

Caitlin Colvin (Bonney Lake, Wash.) picked up her fourth victory of the season in the win, pitching a full seven innings while only allowing two earned runs and five hits. This marked the second time in the 2012 season that she has pitched a complete game and was her second shutout of the year.

Wright State (22-30) got off to a strong start in the first game, plating six runs in the bottom of the opening inning. The Raiders collected three hits and were the beneficiaries of three Bobcat errors in this first inning, with five of the six runs being unearned.

The Bobcats (24-27) were able to get on the board in the top of the second inning, scoring one run to shrink the deficit. Erin Lashley (Pickerington, Ohio) started a rally by hitting a single to the shortstop. The sophomore was able to make her way to second base on the same play, advancing on a throwing error. Following an Alexis Joseph (Alvin, Texas) groundout to second, Lashley was able to make her way into scoring position with two outs. Jillian Van Wagnen (Lorain, Ohio) took advantage of this, hitting a sharp shot to the third baseman. This infielder committed a throwing error, allowing Van Wagnen to get on base and Lashley to score.

Facing a 7-1 deficit in the top of the fourth inning, Ohio plated three runs to pull within striking range. Joseph singled to right center with one out, becoming Ohio’s first base runner of the inning. Van Wagnen then walked, putting runners on first and second base. Brooke Morgart (Wayne, Ohio) came up with a clutch hit, singling to center field to bring in one run. With runners on second and third, Alexandria Basquez (Elk Grove, Calif.) singled down the right-field line, driving in two runs to make it 7-4.

The Raiders were able to add one more run in the bottom of the fourth and hold the Bobcats scoreless the rest of the way to claim the 8-4 victory.

In the second game of the evening, Ohio jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second inning. Raven King (Alpine, Utah) walked to begin the inning and then advanced to second on an illegal pitch. Timmie Rappe (Wheaton, Ill.) dropped down a bunt single to the pitcher, advancing King to third. Rappe then stole second. Lashley came up big once again in the next at-bat, singling to the shortstop on a 2-2 pitch to bring King around to score.

The Bobcats extended this lead in the third inning, taking a 3-0 advantage. Basquez hit an RBI single with no outs and Adrienne Gebele (Annapolis, Md.) got to first via an infield error, driving Joseph home in the process.

King blasted her 12th home run of the season in the top of the fifth inning, bringing two more runs around to make it 5-0. The Raiders found the board in the bottom of this same frame, scoring when Kristi Boreing doubled to center field with two outs.

Colvin was touched up for only one more run throughout the rest of the game, picking up her fourth victory of the year to split the series.
