COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio softball team went 2-2 at the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic last weekend, picking up wins against Ashland and Bowling Green.
The Bobcats started the tourney with a 9-5 loss to Ohio State. Senior Amanda Sacks (Chugiak, Alaska) went 2-for-3 in the game, while sophomore Candace Saucedo (Ontario, Calif.) went 1-for-2 and reached base four times.
In the second game Ohio defeated Ashland, 7-4. Freshmen duo Emily Wethington (New Palestine, Ind.) and Jordan Paden (Walla Walla, Wash.) had big games for the Bobcats. Wethington went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Paden went 2-for-3. Bobcat pitcher MIchelle Sauter (Chehalis, Wash.) got the win in the circle.
Ohio continued its winning ways with a 9-0 victory over Bowling Green in game three. Wethington was the winning pitcher after giving up only three hits and striking out 11 batters.
The `Cats wrapped up the tourney with a 7-5 loss to Toledo on Sunday. The Bobcats out-hit the Rockets, 12-7 and senior Courtney Waters went 4-for-5, while junior Meagan McCutcheon (Mogadore, Ohio) went 2-for-4.
The Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic (OCCC) is one of the biggest fundraisers in Central Ohio for breast cancer research. A total of 13 teams competed in the event, which benefits the Stephanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.
