ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio Softball had a very strong 2012 season, and sports publications are beginning to take notice. In a recent preseason poll released by CollegeSportsMadness.com, the Bobcats earned three total spots on the Mid-American Conference Preseason All-League Teams.
Junior first baseman Raven King (Alpine, Utah) and senior catcher Lauren Gellerman (San Diego, Calif.) earned First Team honors while sophomore pitcher Lauren McClary (Pasadena, Texas) was named to the Second Team.
King and Gellerman played a significant role in Ohio’s most prolific offensive season in program history, a year which saw the Bobcats set new school marks in runs (293), RBI (255), home runs (47), runs in a single game (21), doubles in a single game (7), home runs in a single game (5), and RBI in a single game (15). These two student-athletes co-set a new program record for most home runs in a single season, as both King and Gellerman belted 13 homers.
McClary had one of the best pitching seasons in program history, setting new school marks for strikeouts (205) and appearances (49). Her 2012 season also ranked third all-time in wins (17) and innings pitched (212.1).
Ohio Softball will begin its 40th season in program history on Feb. 8 at the ECU Pirate Classic in Greenville, N.C. At the three-day tournament, the Bobcats will face off against Towson, host East Carolina, Cleveland State, and Rider.
