ATHENS, Ohio -- The Diamond Dish will be your weekly report on all things Ohio University softball in 2014.
The Bobcats shrugged off the bitter cold and snow this week and continued their preseason preparations for the upcoming season.
Redshirt senior OF Chelsea Hortman (Cincinnati, Ohio) and freshman INF Taylor Saxton (Circleville, Ohio) caught up with the Diamond Dish to recap the squad's first week of preseason practice, give their thoughts on the year ahead and even show off their superior singing talents.
Hortman is coming off a 2013 campaign in which she garnered Second Team All-Mid-American Conference honors and Academic All-MAC distinction. She had the third highest batting average on the team, going 27-82 (.329) at the plate, and hit five home runs, five doubles and two triples on the season.
Saxton played four years of softball, basketball and golf at Logan Elm High School. She scored 67 runs and amassed 20 RBIs during her junior and senior seasons and hit .438 as a senior and .481 as a junior. Saxton earned First Team All-Mid-State League and First Team All-District accolades from 2011-13.
Ohio's 56-game 2014 slate opens in Columbia, S.C., at the Carolina Class Feb. 7-9.
