ATHENS, Ohio – With the 40th season in program history just a few days away, seven Ohio Softball student-athletes are taking time from their busy schedules to speak with OhioBobcats.com. Wednesday’s guest was Lauren Gellerman, a senior home run record-holder from San Diego, Calif.
Gellerman had an incredible 2012 season for the Green and White, co-setting a new single-season home run record with teammate Raven King (Alpine, Utah). These two Bobcats each hit 13 home runs on the season, shattering the prior mark. Gellerman played a huge role in Ohio setting multiple offensive records, individually hitting .340, slugging at a rate of .389, amassing 52 hits (10 of which were doubles and 13 were home runs), driving in a team-high 41 runs, and scoring 29 more of her own. At the end of last season, Gellerman was named First Team All-MAC, National Fastpitch Coaches Association Second Team All-Region, and earned Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention recognition.
The Bobcats will begin the 2013 season at the East Carolina University Pirate Classic on Friday, Feb. 8 against Towson. Ohio will also play Cleveland State, Rider, and host East Carolina at the tournament.
