ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio Softball collected two awards from the Mid-American Conference for last week, the league office announced on Sunday. Lauren McClary was named the MAC East Division’s Pitcher of the Week while Raven King was named the East Division’s Player of the Week.
McClary (Pasadena, Texas) had a strong weekend for the Bobcats, pitching two no-hitters at the 2012 Georgia Bulldog Invitational. The freshman pitched five scoreless and hitless innings in a 9-0 victory over Rutgers on March 2 and then picked up her second win of the weekend, pitching five innings of scoreless and hitless softball during a 9-0 win over Cleveland State. McClary had a solid 1.98 WHIP over the weekend and threw 18 strikeouts. The freshman has now pitched two no-hitters and three shutouts in the 2012 season.
King (Alpine, Utah) had a great weekend for Ohio Softball at the 2012 Georgia Bulldog Invitational, hitting .500 (6-for-12), slugging .750, scoring four runs and driving in three more. Her best game of the weekend came in Ohio’s five-inning 9-0 win over Rutgers, during which she collected two hits (one of which being a home run), drove in two runs and scored one more. The sophomore only struck out twice, which she balanced out with her two walks. King did not hit into any double plays and was a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts. Her fielding was also a big part of Ohio’s success, as she generated 17 putouts on 19 attempts for a fielding percentage of 89.5.
The Bobcats will next be in action on March 17 when they play Longwood at the Charleston Southern Tournament.
