ATHENS, Ohio – Lauren Gellerman of the Ohio University Softball Team (13-6) picked up another Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week award, the league office announced on Tuesday. The award is Gellerman’s second of the season and marks the fifth time in 2013 that a Bobcat student-athlete has won a weekly honor from the MAC.
Gellerman (San Diego, Calif.) was the most productive player in Ohio Softball’s offense last week, hitting .571 in five games. The senior recorded eight hits, two of which were doubles and three were home runs. Gellerman drove in a team-high nine RBI, slugging at an incredible pace of 1.357 throughout the week. The senior also scored a team-high five runs in five games.
Gellerman made Ohio Softball history on Thursday night, hitting her 28th career home run to become Ohio’s all-time home runs leader. The senior then added two more to her total throughout the weekend, bringing her current mark to 30. In Ohio’s most difficult game of the week, a contest at No. 18 Washington, Gellerman provided Ohio’s lone offensive spark against the 2009 national-champion Huskies, recording one hit and driving in one run.
Ohio will next be in action on Friday, March 15 in a doubleheader at Dayton. The Bobcats and Flyers will begin play at 2 p.m.
