ATHENS, Ohio - Savannah Jo Dorsey (Grove City, Ohio) has been named the Mid-American Conference's East Division Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. The award is the second earned by the freshman this season and is the Bobcats' seventh Player/Pitcher of the Week award this season.
Savannah had an incredible week for Ohio, pitching 10.2 nearly perfect innings while collecting one win and one save. The freshman did not allow a single run during her time on the mound, nor did she concede a single walk. Dorsey threw a complete-game, three-hit shutout in a 6-0 win over Toledo on Friday before throwing two scoreless innings at Bowling Green on Saturday, earning the first save of her career. She followed this up with 1.2 innings of excellent relief work at Bowling Green on Sunday, during which she allowed just one hit while striking out two.
Dorsey's command was impeccable, as she struck out 13 batters on the weekend while amassing a WHIP of 0.37.
Ohio will next be in action tonight against Ohio State. The Bobcats and Buckeyes will play a doubleheader under the Ohio Softball Field lights beginning at 5 p.m.
