ATHENS, Ohio – In addition to being a very skilled softball player at the NCAA Division I level, Raven King (Alpine, Utah) of the Ohio University softball team is also an excellent student. The junior was recently recognized by the Russ College of Engineering for her academic accomplishments, earning a Junior Academic Achievement Award from the college’s Department of Civil Engineering.
King, a junior studying Civil Engineering, is no stranger to academic success. She was named to the Dean’s List for the 2012 fall semester and currently has a 3.642 cumulative grade-point average. King was named an Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention at the conclusion of the 2012 season.
A career .292 hitter who has clubbed 23 home runs and accounted for 68 RBI in her career, King has earned the respect of opposing pitchers this season, having already accumulated 23 walks in 37 games. King ranks fifth on the team this year with a .286 batting average and is one of five Bobcats with four or more home runs.
“Raven is a student-athlete who is very invested in her academics,” said head coach Jodi Hermanek. “She has a close relationship with many of her professors in the Russ College of Engineering and I know they often speak highly of her work. This is such a great merit on her part and a great honor for her to receive from the College of Engineering.”
Ohio wraps up its 10-game homestand this week, hosting Marshall (April 17) and Wright State (April 18) in doubleheaders at the Ohio Softball Field.
