ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Softball will be hosting its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game on Saturday, May 5. This year the Bobcats will partner with the Akron Racers Charities in the fight against breast cancer.
The Bobcats will be wearing pink uniforms during the 2 p.m. game against Kent State. Saturday's game will also serve as "Bring your Mom to the Game" day, as it falls on Ohio University's 2012 Mom's Weekend. There will be a silent auction the day of the game featuring items such as a pink jersey, autographed balls, helmets and pink bats.
Donations can be made the day of the game or online at http://charities.akronracers.org/donate/
The Akron Racers Charities support numerous projects designed to assist community agencies and, in particular, other non-profit organizations. In 2011 The Akron Racers Charities, in cooperation with the Akron Racers and Akron General Medical Center, developed the highly successful "Together against Breast Cancer" program. This program identifies area organizations that need assistance such as Muffins for Mammograms.
Muffins for Mammograms is an annual program which distributes breast health information along with muffins, cookies and brownies. The proceeds provide screening mammograms at no cost to men and women in the community who are uninsured. Since 1992, the program has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars which have paid for mammograms for several thousand women. The Akron Racers have contributed $46,000 to the program in the past three years.
Ohio will next be in action on Wednesday afternoon at Wright State. The Bobcats and Raiders will begin a doubleheader at 5 p.m.
