CoSIDA Academic All-District
ATHENS, Ohio - The awards just keep rolling in for Lauren Gellerman (San Diego, Calif.) of the Ohio University softball team. On Thursday afternoon, the senior slugger was named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team.
Gellerman is one of just 12 student-athletes to earn First Team honors from District Five, which includes the states of Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. She is joined on the team by Kara Dornbos and Jessacca Gironda from fellow Mid-American Conference schools Central Michigan and Kent State, respectively.
The current MAC leader in single-season home runs with 21, Gellerman has hit .384 and slugged at a rate of .894 this season for the Bobcats. She has driven in 51 runs and scored 41 times in 49 games. On Sunday afternoon at Northern Illinois, Gellerman hit Ohio's 71st home run of the season, breaking the former MAC standard of 70 in one season set by Ball State last year. The home run also catapulted Gellerman to the top of Ohio's single-season RBI chart with 51.
Gellerman and the other First Team Academic All-District honorees will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second, and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Ohio will next be in action on Friday afternoon against Eastern Michigan. The Bobcats and Eagles will begin a doubleheader at the Ohio Softball Field at 1 p.m.
