YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Ohio softball team fell in both games of its doubleheader at Eastern Michigan, falling in game one 2-1 before losing the nightcap 9-2 at Varsity Field on Wednesday. Senior Erin Chapman (Beavercreek) was 1-for-4 on the day with a triple and two RBI.

Ohio (18-29, 11-11) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third in game one when junior Jennifer Tisevich (Canton) scored on a groundball from senior Kiersten Scrima (Olympia, Wash.).

Eastern Michigan (17-26, 7-13) responded, scoring twice in the fifth to take the lead. Katie Grens scored the first Eagle run when she reached home on a double by Carolyn Grutza. An error by senior Sarah Melvin (Loveland) allowed Grutza to score from third for the second EMU run.

The Eagles took a 4-0 lead in the first inning of game two, highlighted by a two-run homerun by Liz Flack. Lauren Clark and Deanna Wisnieski also drove in runs in the inning.

Eastern Michigan added to its lead in the third, using four hits and three errors to score five runs to build a 9-0 cushion. Flack once again provided most of the offense for the Eagles, hitting a double down the right field line to score two. Grens, Kelly Gulliver and Genny Hann drove in runs for Eastern Michigan as well.

The Bobcats got the board in the fifth when Chapman tripled to right center to score Melvin and sophomore Emily Futscher (Cincinnati).

Junior Kerri Harley (Hickory Hills, Ill.) started game one and went 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk. She struck out four batters. Freshman Natalie Armstrong (Murrysville, Pa.) pitched the final 1.2 innings, shutting out the Eagles on one hit.

Sophomore Candy Warden (Fredrick, Md.) got the start in game two and threw two-thirds of an innings, surrendering four runs on five hits. Freshman Katlyn Mallette (Taunton, Mass.) went the next 1.2 innings and gave up three runs on four hits while striking out one. Armstrong went the rest of the way, allowing two runs on six hits.

Ohio closes out the regular season on Saturday with a home doubleheader against Northern Illinois at the Ohio Softball Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
