ATHENS, Ohio – Lauren Gellerman (San Diego, Calif.) of the Ohio University softball team has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division’s Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. The award is the fourth for Gellerman this season and the 10th earned by the Bobcats in 2013.
Lauren had an unbelievable weekend for the Ohio University softball team, hitting at a rate of .900 (9-10) and slugging at a 2.000 clip. The senior played some of her best softball when her team needed it the most, proving to be a vital contributor during Ohio’s 2-2 weekend which saw the team qualify for its seventh straight Mid-American Conference Tournament. Lauren recorded at least one hit in all four games of the weekend, had three multi-hit games, and recorded three hits in a single game on two occasions. She hit 1.000 in three of Ohio’s four games during the weekend and slugged at a rate of 2.500 or higher in three of the four contests. Her best game of the weekend was the second game of a doubleheader against Eastern Michigan during which she went 3-3, hit one home run and one triple, scored once, drove in one run, and slugged at a rate of 2.667.
On the weekend, she led the team in hits (9), home runs (3), RBI (5), total bases (20), runs scored (6), walks (4), and slugging percentage (2.000).
Ohio recently earned a spot in the MAC Tournament for the seventh straight season. The Bobcats open play as the No. 6 seed against No. 7 Bowling Green on Wednesday, May 8 at 1:30 p.m. All games will be played at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
