ATHENS, Ohio – Lauren Gellerman has been named a Mid-American Conference Player and Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. These honors come just one day after Gellerman was named First Team All-MAC.
Gellerman (San Diego, Calif.) was a big part of Ohio’s prolific scoring output during the Bobcats’ 5-1 week. The junior went 9-of-16 (.562) from the plate, hitting three home runs and one double. Gellerman walked three times, got on base at a clip of .632, drove in six runs and scored four of her own. Lauren accumulated a slugging percentage of 1.188 during the week’s six games and wasn’t afraid to do what was necessary to advance a base runner, as she dropped down one sacrifice. Her best game of the week was Ohio’s first win over Buffalo on Friday, during which she belted two home runs, collected three total hits, scored two runs and drove in three. The junior also played very well at the catcher position, registering 21 putouts and one assist while committing zero errors.
The Bobcats will next be in action this afternoon at 5 p.m. Ohio will face off against Western Michigan in the second round of the 2012 MAC Tournament.
