ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio softball sophomore pitcher and designated player, Danielle Stiene has been named the Mid-American Conference East Co-Player of the Week for her performance at the plate this past weekend, the league announced today.
Stiene (Loveland, Ohio) not only led Ohio in the circle, she also led them at the plate, batting .500 on the weekend, getting four hits in eight at bats including a double and a homerun. She had three RBI, four runs scored, eight total bases and had a slugging percentage of 1.000. She also added two walks and an on base percentage of .600, helping lead Ohio to a sweep of Bowling Green and helping secure the three seed at the MAC Tournament.
In the first game of the doubleheader against BGSU on May 6, Stiene got off to a great start, hitting a two-run homerun in the top of the first inning to give Ohio the early lead. Overall, she was 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI in the 3-1 win. In the second game of the doubleheader, Stiene was 0-for-2 with a walk in the 4-1 win.
In the final game of the series, Stiene was dominant at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a walk, a double, an RBI and three runs scored in the 9-3 victory.
Stiene also led Ohio in the circle; going 2-0 on the weekend and earning her second save of the season. In 13.0 innings, Stiene allowed four runs (two earned) on nine hits while striking out five and only walking two batters. Stiene compiled a 1.08 ERA in those three appearances.
Stiene and the Bobcats return to action this week for the 2016 MAC Tournament. The No. 3 Bobcats will take on the sixth-seeded Akron Zips on Wednesday, May 11 at 6 p.m. at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
