Five Softball Players Named to the All-MAC Second Team

Athens, Ohio - Five Ohio Softball Players were named to the All-MAC Second Team announced at Wednesday's tournament banquet. Tiffany Bolton (Fairfax, Va.), Kelli Bankert (Clifton, Va.), Erin Chapman (Beavercreek), Val Wood (Naperville, Il.) and Stephanie Stapleton (Columbus) were honored for their play throughout the season. This is Bankert's second selection, garnering first team and Freshman-of-the-Year honors last season. The other four are first-time members.

Bankert leads the Bobcats in batting for the second consecutive season. Currently, she is batting .356 with a team high 58 hits. In MAC games, she is third in batting (.403), tied for fourth in hits (29), and fifth in on base percentage (.442). Bolton is batting .302 with a team high 14 doubles and is ranked in five batting categories in the MAC. She is sixth in batting (.364), tied for sixth in hits (28) and runs scored (16) and tied for second in doubles (8).

Chapman tied Ohio's single season record with five home runs. She is batting .262 and leads the team in home runs, walks (14), stolen bases (9), outfield assists (8) and two out RBI (14). In conference play, she is ranked in seven of 10 batting categories: tied for second in home runs (4) and walks (10), fourth in runs (18) and slugging (.603), tied for fifth in total bases (41), ninth in on base percentage (.418) and tied for ninth in RBI (14).

Wood is 16-4 with a 1.32 ERA. She has struck out 121 and walked 30 in 133 innings. She leads the conference in saves overall (7) and MAC games (3), seventh in strikeouts in the MAC (59) and overall and tied for sixth with seven conference wins. Stapleton batted .270 with a career highs in hits (20) and RBI (14). Her only two extra base hits of the season were game-winners, including her first career home run, a grand slam, helping Ohio advance to the MAC tournament. She did most of her damage in conference, batting .310 with eight RBI.

The Bobcats (32-21, 15-9) will begin play on Thursday at when they take on Kent State at 12:30 p.m. in first round action of the MAC tournament.
