Bankert Named Academic All-District

Sophomore Kelli Bankert was named to the 2001 Verizon District IV Softball Academic All-District Team.

Athens, Ohio - Sophomore Kelli Bankert was named to the 2001 Verizon District IV Softball Academic All-District Team. The third baseman batted .345 (59-171) with eight doubles, a home run, 22 RBI and scored 13 runs, leading the team in average and hits. She finished the season ranked third in the MAC in average (.403), tied for fourth in hits (29) and fifth in on base percentage (.442).

Her 59 hits ranks her seventh highest in an Ohio single season. 50 of those were singles, tying her for fifth in a season. The second team All-MAC selection also moved into the top 10 in career doubles (26) and RBI (46). Bankert has maintained a 3.97 GPA in Early Childhood Education.

To be nominated for this award, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. The All-District Team is part of the Verizon Academic All-America program. First team selections will appear on the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America Softball team.
