ALL-MAC
Five players from the Ohio softball team were placed on all-conference teams this year.

Alicia Catlette (Mogadore, Ohio) was named to the All-MAC First Team. Catlette ended the regular season with a .236 batting average in 53 games played and 50 starts. She totaled 25 hits and scored 15 runs and batted in six runners. In the MAC, Catlette batted .275 on the season with 14 hits and eight runs.

Shalene Petrich (Chehalis, Wash.), Candace Saucedo (Ontario, Calif.), Debbie Szalejko (Beavercreek, Ohio) and Courtney Waters (Eagle River, Alaska) were named to the All-MAC Second Team.

Petrich and Saucedo were also selected to the All-MAC Freshman Team.

Petrich ended the regular season second on the team with a .333 batting average. She played in all 54 games of the year and made 49 starts. Petrich totaled 51 hits, 26 runs, 13 RBI and led the team with 26 steals.

Saucedo started nine games in the pitching circle and made 21 appearances. She finished with a 2.19 ERA and a 5-5 record. She pitched four complete game and two shutouts for a total 76.2 innings pitched with 35 total strikeouts. Saucedo also had 94 at bats and scored 16 runs on 21 hits with 13 RBI.

Szalejko was Ohio's offensive leader all season long. She finished with a .383 batting average, which placed her second in the MAC. Szalejko totaled a team-high 175 at bats, 67 hits and five triples. She was named MAC East Player of the Week two times during the year.

Waters also gained MAC East Player of the Week honors this year. She batted .255 on the season and totaled 28 hits, 18 runs and 11 RBI.

The Amy DeShay Award was named in honor of the former Ohio player who died in a car accident in 1995. The award is given to the person who represents the epitome of a team player.

The Wendy Fox Award was named in honor of the former Ohio player who passed away due to illness in January 2002. It is presented to the individual who exhibits the most strength and drive to succeed.
