ATHENS, Ohio – Just a few days removed from her second straight First Team All-Mid-American Conference honor, Lauren Gellerman (San Diego, Calif.) of the Ohio University softball team was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Mideast Region Second Team for the second year in a row.
Gellerman picked up right where she left off a year ago to complete another impressive season. A .405 hitter who slugged at a clip of .948, she ranked highly in a number of areas among her Mid-American Conference competition. Lauren collected 70 hits, hit a MAC record 26 home runs, drove in 60 RBI, and scored on 49 occasions.
The senior finished her final season in Athens as the No. 2 home run hitter in the nation and also ranked No. 4 in the country in slugging percentage. In the final game of Ohio’s 2013 season, Gellerman hit the 48th home run of her career to tie for second all-time on the MAC career home run list. She also moved into sole possession of second place in the MAC record book with her single-season RBI count of 60, three of which came during the 7-6 loss to No. 1 seed Ball State.
Gellerman ended her four years with the Bobcats as Ohio’s career leader in home runs and RBI. She earned four MAC East Player of the Week honors and two MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honors during the 2013 season.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2013 NFCA Division I All-American teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
The 2013 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at 6 p.m. EST on Wednesday, May 29, via NFCA.org.
