ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio senior outfielder Erin Chapman (Beavercreek) was named to the 2004 Great Lakes All-Region first team on Thursday, according to a vote by the region’s coaches. She becomes the first player in school history to garner all-region accolades on multiple occasions, earning first-team status in 2003 as well.
Chapman is one of three players from the Mid-American Conference to be recognized. She is joined on the first team by Bowling Green third baseman Gina Rango, while Central Michigan pitcher Amber Puchalski was named to the second team.
Chapman finished her final season at Ohio with a .326 batting average, 46 hits, six doubles, eight home runs and 37 RBIs. She set the school record for most home runs in a season and posted the second-highest single-season total for walks with 26 and the third-highest single-season runs batted in total with 37. Chapman batted .344 in conference play with six home runs, 23 RBI, a .703 slugging percentage and a .476 on-base percentage. Her six home runs led the Mid-American Conference.
The Bobcats’ all-time leader in home runs (22) and runs scored (104), Chapman continued her climb up the career charts in almost every major offensive category as well, finishing her career with 172 hits, 32 doubles, six triples, 98 runs batted in and 41 stolen bases. For her efforts, she was named the MAC East Division Player of the Week on two occasions (April 12 and May 10)and earned first-team All-MAC accolades for the first time in her career.
All-region players from each of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s nine regional teams are considered for the 2004 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America teams. The teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 26, at the opening ceremonies of the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.
