Bobcats Placed on the Academic All-MAC Softball Team

MAC Academic All-MAC Softball Release ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio softball seniors Marian Davis (Brighton, Mich.) and Debbie Szalejko (Beavercreek, Ohio) were placed on the 2007 Academic All-MAC Softball Team. The Bobcats are two of 18 MAC athletes honored. Davis is an applied mathematics major with a 3.81 GPA. She played in 56 of the season's 58 games and finished second on the team with 25 runs scored. Davis batted .293 on the season with 43 totals hits, including a home run against Eastern Michigan in the third round of the MAC Tournament. As a catcher, Davis finished her career top-10 in Ohio history with 640 putouts. Szalejko, a business marketing and finance major, has a 3.50 GPA. Szalejko was an All-MAC Second Team selection and finished her college career ranked on five of Ohio's career record lists; including fourth in triples, sixth in games played and stolen bases, eighth in runs scored and tenth in singles. The outfielder set a new Ohio single-season record with 59 singles in 2007 and garnered MAC East Player of the Week honors two times during the year. The MAC 2007 Academic All-MAC Women's Softball Team was voted on by the league's faculty athletic representatives. Due to ties in the voting, the squad was extended to 18. The number of honorees on the Academic All-MAC Team is the number that is set for the specific sport or 33 percent of the number of nominees, whichever is greater. To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered. |
