ATHENS, Ohio – Ever since suiting up for the Ohio University softball team as a freshman during the 2012 season, Lauren McClary (Pasadena, Texas) has been nothing short of an impact player. The rising junior was recently featured as the cover story of a Houston-based sports magazine, InOtherWordz.
In an article titled “Stage Play,” Jo’el Steven Rouse profiles the ups and downs of McClary’s career as a collegiate athlete at Ohio University. Take a look at this excerpt from the piece below:
“McClary, who said she felt ‘well prepared for college ball’ by her Texas play, was seemingly microwave-ready for the Bobcats coming right in last year and earning a starting spot. She appeared in 49 of the 57 games of the 2012 campaign. With 32 starts and five complete-game shutout wins she brought enough heat to make the All-MAC Freshman Team.”
Through two years as a starter with the Bobcats, McClary has made 90 appearances, posting a 27-33 record with a solid 3.71 earned-run average. The rising junior has thrown 23 complete games, eight shutouts, and has recorded 320 strikeouts. Opposing hitters are succeeding at a rate of merely .227 when they step in the batters’ box to face McClary.
Also featured in Volume III, Issue 24 of InOtherWordz Magazine are track and field student-athletes from UCLA and Kansas and Barrett Barnes of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
