ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University softball team opens its 2013 fall schedule on Sunday as it plays host to a doubleheader against the Marshall University Thundering Herd at the Ohio Softball Field. The first game of the twinbill is set to begin at 1 p.m. with the second game beginning at 3 p.m.
The Bobcats open the fall campaign by returning 14 players from last year's squad that finished the year with a 28-29 record. The Bobcats are coached by Jodi Hermanek, who enters her sixth season in Athens.
Junior Kaylin Clarke (North Royalton, Ohio) and redshirt senior Chelsea Hortman (Cincinnati, Ohio) return to the diamond this fall after both posted strong 2013 seasons at the plate as they batted .349 and .329, respectively.
Sophomore pitcher Savannah Jo Dorsey (Grove City, Ohio) also returns to the mix after she posted a team-best 3.39 earned run average a year ago en route to winning 14 games.
Marshall comes to Athens after posting one of the finest season's in school history a year ago as it went 36-22 and captured the 2013 Conference USA Tournament title. As a team, the Herd tallied nearly 400 hits and held its opponents to just under four runs per game (3.51).
Admission to Sunday afternoon's doubleheader is free for all fans.
