ATHENS, Ohio - Junior outside hitter Kelly Lamberti (Cary, Ill.) notched a double-double to propel the Green Team to a 2-1 victory (25-19, 20-25, 25-15) over the White Team in the Ohio Volleyball Team's annual Green & White Game Sunday afternoon inside the Convocation Center.
Lamberti, the 2012 MAC Player of the Year, led the Green squad with 11 kills and 13 digs, while sophomore middle blocker Karin Bull (Bloomington, Minn.) added 11 kills to help pace the Green attack. Graduate middle blocker Alexis Pinson (Phoenix, Ariz.) - a transfer from Arizona State - tallied six kills and five blocks in her Ohio debut, while freshman outside hitter Katie Horton (Westland, Mich.) posted eight kills and three blocks.
Sophomore setter Abby Gilleland (Bull Valley, Ill.) notched a match-high 31 assists and added nine digs and four kills for the Green Team while sophomore libero Meredith Ashy (Louisville, Ky.) paced the Bobcat defense with a match-high 14 digs.
On the White side, junior outside hitter Chelsea Bilger (Fishers, Ind.) posted a double-double with 10 kills and a team-high 13 digs, while junior middle blocker Hannah Burkle (Crystal Lake, Ill.) led the team with four blocks and added a pair of kills. Freshman setter/libero Brooke Coleman (Plano, Texas) contributed 12 assists and seven digs for the White Team and senior defensive specialist Mollie Geske (Shakopee, Minn.) recorded six digs.
The Bobcats now have 11 days to prepare for the team's season opening tournament in Eugene, Ore. Ohio opens the Oregon Classic with a 7:30 p.m. matchup against Bryant on Aug. 30. The Bobcats then face Eastern Washington on Aug. 31 (4 p.m.) before battling eighth-ranked Oregon at 10 p.m.
Ohio opens the home slate with the Bobcat Invitational Sept. 6-7 inside the Convocation Center. The Bobcats face Cincinnati (noon) and North Carolina (7 p.m.) on Sept. 6 and square off with No. 22 Dayton on Sept. 7 at 3 p.m.
Prior to the scrimmage, Ohio held its first installment of the 2013 Little Bobcats instructional program. Little Bobcats is an outreach program designed to allow Ohio fans from grades 1-8 a chance to interact with their favorite Bobcat players, while also learning more about the sport and enhancing their volleyball skills.
