ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Volleyball wrapped up the 2011 regular season by sweeping Akron on Saturday night at home, 25-21, 25-17, 27-25. The victory clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament for the Bobcats with a 13-3 record.

Kelly Lamberti and Chelsea Bilger collected double-doubles for the second-consecutive match. Lamberti led the team in kills with 16 (.314 hitting percentage) and added 11 digs, while Bilger finished with 12 kills and 15 digs.

Playing in her final home match, Katie Post was the third Bobcat in double figures with 10 kills and four blocks. Mollie Geske’s 20 digs were also a match-high and Bailey Karst evenly distributed 36 assists between the three sets.

Ohio fell behind 5-0 in the first set and still trailed 11-7 before starting to climb back. The Bobcats got consecutive kills, an ace from Post before a block pulled them even at 11. Trailing 16-13, Ohio scored the next four points to take their first lead of the match, 17-16.

It was a 21-20 lead for the Zips before two errors handed the lead back to the home side. Back-to-back kills from Lamberti were followed by a Robins/Hartnett block to end the set, 25-21. Lamberti finished the frame with six kills and a block while Post had four kills, a block and an ace.

Ohio scored five of the first six points in the second set and eventually led by as many as nine in cruising to a 25-17 win. Lamberti led the ‘Cats with four kills, two blocks, an ace and an assist, Post chipped in three kills, an ace and a block and Hartnett added a pair of kills and blocks.

The Bobcats had an 11-7 lead in the third set and looked well on their way to an easy win, however, Akron scored the next five points to claim a 12-11 edge. The Zips took their largest lead at 17-14 on an ace by Chelsea Harvey but once more, Ohio bounced back.

Lamberti, Post and Bilger delivered kills during a five-point run that enabled the Green & White to reclaim a 19-17 lead. Akron still had their chances to score set point, leading 24-23 and 25-24, but Bilger notched consecutive kills.

Fittingly, Post delivered the final point with her 10th kill as Ohio won the match with a 27-25 win. Lamberti and Post finished with 11 kills combined in the fifth stanza for the ‘Cats.

Ohio will open with Miami in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals at 7 p.m. this Friday evening. This will be the first time the three-day event is held at the SPIRE Institute, located in Geneva, Ohio.
