ATHENS, Ohio-Ohio volleyball student-athletes Ellen Herman, Sue Jacobi and Michelle Jantsch were named to the Mid-American Conference’s All-Academic Team Tuesday. Herman became just the sixth student-athlete in MAC Volleyball history to be named to the list three times, while Jantsch claimed her second honor.
Herman is both Ohio’s and the MAC’s all-time leader in kills, as well as the school’s all-time leader in points and attacks. Her resume also includes four First Team All-MAC honors, MAC Player of the Year, two American Volleyball Coaches Association First Team All-Mideast Region recognitions and Honorable Mention All-American each of the last two years. She posted career highs of 32 kills and 33.5 in 2008, and also has career bests of 23 digs and six blocks. This season, she appeared in 33 matches and posted season highs of 26 kills, 29.0 points and 21 digs.
Jantsch was a First Team All-MAC selection and led the conference in assists in both overall and conference play, averaging 10.91 assists per set on the season. She also recorded five double-doubles for the year and posted season highs of 54 assists, 14 digs, seven kills and six blocks while playing in all 34 matches.
A First Team All-MAC performer this past season, Jacobi ranked fourth in the MAC in hitting in conference play at .334 and averaged 3.01 kills per set for the season overall. She saw action in all 34 matches and posted season bests of 18 kills, seven digs and five blocks for the season.
Ohio won the MAC title in 2009 and advanced to its seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament, where it defeated Notre Dame and nearly pulled off a second round upset of host Michigan on its home floor.
