ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University volleyball head coach Ryan Theis announced the team's 2013 spring schedule Sunday, which includes four exhibition events in March and April. Three of the Bobcats' opponents in those events won at least one NCAA Tournament match last season.
The spring slate kicks off March 23 in Maumee, Ohio, as the Bobcats will take on a field of teams representing the MAC and the Big Ten.
From there, Ohio will match up with Big Ten opponent Ohio State on April 6 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Bobcats will face a formidable test in the host Buckeyes, who finished 23-11 last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Ohio then heads west to face Dayton on April 13 at the Frericks Center. The Flyers defeated Pepperdine, 3-2, in the 2012 NCAA Tournament first round before falling to Oregon, 3-0, in the second round.
The Bobcats will wrap up the 2013 spring season with a trip to the Twin Cities to take on two or three collegiate teams, including the University of Minnesota on April 20. The Gophers were 27-8 last season and advanced to the 2012 NCAA Sweet 16, where the team fell to Penn State.
Other teams competing in Minneapolis include Concordia, Iowa State, Northern Iowa, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.
