Volleyball Falls to Dayton and Louisville
April 12, 2008
DAYTON, Ohio - In its second outing of the spring season, the Ohio volleyball team dropped two matches on Saturday, losing to host Dayton, 2-1, and Louisville, 2-0, at the Frericks Center. "The level of play was at times extremely high today," said Ohio Head Coach Ryan Theis. "There were instances of good play as a team and we at times played well, but we still have a lot of things to work on." Ohio played Dayton first, who advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament last season and posted a record of 33-2. In the second match the Bobcats played Louisville, a team which they narrowly defeated in their regular season finale at the Convocation Center this past season. Louisville was an NCAA Tournament participant last season, after leading the nation in blocks and finishing with a mark 22-8. "Louisville is a very physical, terrific blocking team that is very quick at the net," explained Theis. "Playing against high caliber teams is going to help make us a stronger team." Ohio will next travel to Aurora, Ill., for the 2008 Great Lakes College Invitational at the Great Lakes Center. The tournament will feature over 20 schools from around the country, including North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, rival Miami (OH), and the Bobcats' first round NCAA Tournament opponent from this past season, Purdue. "We're starting to get a feel for the lineups and for who should be on the floor," said Theis. "This coming up weekend there is going to be a great field of teams and we are looking forward to it."
