Ohio Blows through Field at Spring Tourney
April 16, 2006 ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio volleyball team went 3-0 with three sweeps this weekend at the Ohio Volleyball Spring Tournament. The Bobcats welcomed West Virginia State, Findlay and Charleston to the Convocation Center for a best-of-three round robin tourney. Ohio defeated all three teams 2-0 to go undefeated on the day. "I was very happy with how we played," head coach Geoff Carlston said. "We have come a long way as a group over the last month. Overall, our team showed a lot of leadership and we played well as a team." Through the first three weeks of spring tournament action, Carlston lists numerous players as showing improvement since the end of the fall season. "Jill (DeArmond) (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) did an exceptional job of setting today," Carlston said. "I really thought our back row players - Michaele (Blackburn) (Cincinnati, Ohio), Janice (Matacic) (Liberty Township, Ohio) and Molly (Mangan) (Claire, Ill.) - did a great job. And overall I think Jenna (Gaughran) (Centerville, Ohio) also had a very good week." Ohio will conclude its spring schedule this weekend when it competes in the Great Lakes College Spring Tournament against the likes of top-notch programs Arizona, Minnesota, Purdue, Texas and Wisconsin. |
