Ohio Volleyball has announced the addition of Kellie Turner and Meredith Ashy for the 2012 season.
“Kellie and Meredith will immediately compete for starting jobs,” Ohio Volleyball head coach Ryan Theis said. “The addition of these two has me even more excited for the fall.”
Turner, a 6-1 outside hitter, is a transfer from Salt Lake City Community College. Prior to college, she played at Huntington Beach High School in California where she was a two-time league MVP and first team All- California Interscholastic Federation. A three-time team MVP, Turner led Huntington Beach to the CIF Finals where they captured the league championship.
During her two years at SLCC, Turner started 200 games, had 459 kills and leaves fourth all-time with 66 aces over her career. She was named Honorable Mention All-Region and Region 18 All-Tournament after her freshman season and earned second team All-Region honors this year.
Ashy, a 5-8 libero from Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, Ky., was an All-Region, All-Catholic and All-District Tournament team selection during her senior season. During her four seasons at Sacred Heart, she helped the Valkyries to two regional and state runner-up spots.
Ashy was named Miss SHA for her defense after her junior and senior seasons and also earned Kentucky Academic All-State recognition. During her freshman season, she was named Sacred Heart’s MVP.
Ohio adds Turner and Ashy to the duo of Karin Bull (Bloomington, Minn.) and Abby Gilleland (Bull Valley, Ill.). Gilleland, a 5-10 setter, was All-Conference and Academic All-Conference the last two seasons at Marian Central Catholic. Bull, a 6-2 middle blocker, named third team All-Metro after earning All-Conference honors at Bloomington Kennedy.
“I’m thrilled with the addition of these players to our program,” Theis said. “They continue our great tradition of having tremendous student-athletes who will excel on the court and off. They both have leadership qualities, love to compete and are very hard workers.”
The Bobcats continue spring action this weekend at Marshall and will then host an Ohio Alumni match on May 5 at 5 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
