MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Ohio University volleyball team wrapped up its 2013 exhibition season with a trio of matches Saturday at Williams Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
The Bobcats went 1-2 in its three matches on the day. After dropping a two-set match to 2012 NCAA Regional participant Minnesota (25-23, 25-16), the Bobcats fell to Wisconsin in two sets (25-22, 25-15).
Ohio wrapped up the day with a 2-0 victory over Minnesota Crookston. The Bobcats won the match with set victories of 25-14 and 25-13.
“We had some glimpses of great play, but I don’t think we can beat teams like Minnesota and Wisconsin with Kelly Lamberti blocking with one hand [injured left thumb],” head coach Ryan Theis said. “It’s too much of a defensive liability, but we want to allow Kelly the opportunity to perform her other skills and get better for the future.”
Lamberti (Cary, Ill.) led the Bobcats offensively with 23 kills, while freshman setter Abby Gilleland (Bull Valley, Ill.) anchored the Ohio service game with a team-best three aces.
Freshman libero Meredith Ashy (Louisville, Ky.) paced the ‘Cats with 17 digs, while three other Bobcats posted double digit dig totals over the three match event. Also solid on the defensive end, redshirt sophomore Liis Kullerkann (Keila, Estonia) posted a team-best four blocks for the Green and White.
“We’ve loved matching up against good competition over the course of the spring,” Theis said. “Overall, I’m very happy with some of the individual progress we’ve seen and we look forward to an offseason where we can get healthy and begin preparation for the fall preseason.”
