Ohio Volleyball Raises Money for Relay for Life
May 23, 2006 ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio volleyball team raised $1,750 for the American Cancer Society as part of a Relay for Life fund-raiser held Friday and Saturday. The event, which was held at the Ohio University driving range, kicked off Friday at 6 p.m. and concluded Saturday at noon. Twelve Bobcats participated in the event with each individual walking for one-and-a-half hours. Relay for Life is designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money to help the American Cancer Society save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer and empower individuals to fight back against the disease. The event originated in 1985 in Tacoma, Wash. when Dr. Gordy Klatt raised $27,000 by walking for 24 consecutive hours. Ohio Volleyball would like to thank Black Top Contracting, Hocking Valley Concrete, Inc. and numerous other contributors for their generosity in making this event a success. |
