ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University volleyball team was awarded an American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 school year.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Ohio Volleyball had a cumulative GPA of 3.72 for the 2011-12 academic year and was one of 102 Division I teams to receive the award.
Ohio Volleyball had three student-athletes, Katie Post, Nicole Staverman and Lexie Hartnett, named to the 2011 Academic All-MAC team. Leah Petrovich, Faith Robins, Kelly Colyar and Mollie Geske were named Academic Honorable Mention.
Ohio has had at least three players recognized on the MAC All-Academic Team for the past five seasons and had a record four first-team selections back in 2008. Eight different players have been named to a MAC All-Academic team over the last four years.
The Ohio volleyball season is less than a month away with the annual Green and White match scheduled for Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. The Bobcats open the regular season Aug. 24-26 in Dayton against No. 2 Illinois, No. 6 Pepperdine and the host Flyers. Ohio hosts the first of two tournaments to open the 2012 home schedule Aug. 31-Sep. 2 with No. 13 Kentucky, No. 24 Oregon and Western Carolina coming to The Convo.
