ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University volleyball team was awarded an American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award Wednesday for the 2012-13 academic year.
The Bobcats have received the prestigious honor for four consecutive seasons.
"I'm proud of our team's work in the classroom," head coach Ryan Theis said. "We make academics a priority in our program. Our continued success is a great compliment to our student-athletes and our academic support at Ohio."
The AVCA Team Academic Award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Ohio volleyball had a cumulative GPA of 3.36 for the 2012-13 academic year and was one of 130 Division I teams to receive the award.
Ohio volleyball had three student-athletes, Chelsea Bilger, Kelly Lamberti and Faith Robins, named to the 2012 Academic All-MAC team. It marked the seventh-straight season in which Ohio had at least three student-athletes on the league's academic squad.
The Bobcats begin their 2013 camp on Saturday, Aug. 10. The annual Green & White Game is set for Aug. 18. For more information on the activities surrounding Ohio's annual scrimmage, click here.
