ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio University volleyball team will host its annual Green & White Scrimmage at the Athens Community Center on Saturday, Aug. 23, as announced by first-year head coach Deane Webb on Thursday (Aug. 7).
The match is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m. ET. Cost of admission is two canned food goods for donation.
"We're excited to involve the community in this year's Green & White Scrimmage," said Webb. "Instead of asking the community to come to us as they do in our other home matches, we're bringing our team to them. The Athens Community Center is a great partner for this event, and we look forward to meeting many new Bobcat fans at the scrimmage."
The 'Cats open preseason camp next Sunday (Aug. 10) in preparation for the program's 46th season.
Ohio kicks off the 2014 season in Honolulu, Hawaii at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational. After starting the season by taking on the host Rainbow Wahine in the early hours of Aug. 30 (1:30 a.m. ET), the 'Cats will take on San Diego State (Aug. 30, 11:30 p.m. ET) and Pac-12 foe Arizona State (Aug. 31, 9 p.m. ET).
Ohio has proved to be one of the Midwest's most consistent programs over the better part of a decade, and the Bobcats will look to continue that perennial success in 2014.
The Bobcats have qualified for the NCAA Tournament nine of the past 11 years and have won a Mid-American Conference title (regular season and/or tournament) in 10 of the past 11 seasons. The streak includes eight MAC regular season championships and eight MAC Tournament crowns over the 11-year span.
The Bobcats return nine of 15 student-athletes from last season's MAC title team, including four of seven starters (including libero).
Season tickets for the 2014 campaign can be purchased as part of the Ohio All-Sport Pass, which includes entry to all regular season home games for Volleyball, Women's Basketball, Baseball and Softball.
