Three Bobcats Earn Preseason All-MAC Accolades

Lamberti was named the 2012 MAC Player of the Year

ATHENS, Ohio – For the second time in as many seasons, three Ohio University student-athletes were named to the Preseason All-MAC Team, as selected by the Mid-American Conference’s 12 head coaches.

Junior outside hitters Kelly Lamberti (Cary, Ill.) and Chelsea Bilger (Fishers, Ind.) earned the honor in 2013 along with sophomore setter Abby Gilleland (Bull Valley, Ill.). Ohio and Bowling Green tied for the most preseason All-MAC picks in the conference with three.

Lamberti put together an elite season for the Bobcats in 2012. A First Team All-MAC selection, Lamberti also was named the MAC Player of the Year after leading the ‘Cats with 435 kills and 3.95 kills/set, which ranked second in the league. The Cary, Ill., native hit .206 for the year and contributed 29 service aces, 370 digs and 56 total blocks (including seven solo). She was twice named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week and recorded a team-leading 16 double-doubles.

Bilger excelled offensively during her sophomore campaign, finishing second on the team in kills (340), kills per set (3.09) and total attacks (944). Her 3.33 kills/set in conference play ranked ninth-best in the league. An All-MAC First Team selection, Bilger ranked fourth on the team in total blocks (67) and also recorded 126 digs (1.15 digs/set). She was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 8, 2012 after notching 29 kills in matchups against Akron and Buffalo.

Gilleland – an All-MAC Freshman Team selection in 2012 – led the Bobcats in assists (970) and ranked ninth in the conference with 9.42 assists/set last season. She also was third on the team with 226 digs (2.19 digs/set) and posted 53 total blocks. Her 970 assists were the 10th most in Ohio single season history (rally scoring era).

The Bobcats open the 2013 campaign Friday (Aug. 30) against Bryant at 7:30 p.m. ET in Eugene, Ore.
