Ohio Hosts Bobcat Invitational Ohio Volleyball plays its second home tournament of the season this weekend when it hosts Niagara, Belmont and Montana State this weekend. The Green & White will play the Purple Eagles and Bruins on Friday before taking on former assistant coach Kyle Wiendel and his new batch of Bobcats on Saturday.

Against The Field Ohio faces all three teams for the first time this weekend. Ohio is 1-0 against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents, Niagara's league, 20-15 against Ohio Valley Conference foes, Belmont's league and 2-1 against Big Sky teams, Montana State's league.
Ohio Sweeps MAC Weekly Awards Serena Warner and Kelly Lamberti were named the MAC Volleyball East Division Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week by the league offices today. Warner was named to the Baymont Invitational all-tournament team and Lamberti leads the Bobcats in kills and points.
This is the first MAC Weekly Award for Warner after the sophomore recorded 17 kills, hit .400 and led the squad with 15 blocks this past weekend. She notched a match-high six blocks against both the nationally-ranked Ducks and Wildcats. She also racked up eight kills while hitting over .700 in the win against WCU.
Lamberti led Ohio in kills this weekend against two nationally-ranked foes. She notched a double-double with a match-best 18 kills and 11 digs against the Wildcats on Friday and then led the Bobcats with 19 kills while hitting .341 against the Ducks. She also notched seven kills, seven digs and five blocks in the win over WCU. This is her second MAC Weekly Award.
Last Weekend Ohio earned its first win of the season this past weekend and now stands at 1-5. All five of the Bobcat losses this season have come to teams ranked in the AVCA Top 20 (No. 10 Dayton, No. 12 Pepperdine, No. 13 Oregon, No. 19 Kentucky and No. 20 Illinois).
Opponents at a Glance Niagara is 3-3 after winning two games at the Patriot Invitational last weekend in Fairfax, Va., against Navy and George Mason. Senior outside hitter Kari Honomichl had a solid weekend with 49 kills, 23 digs and four service aces. In the victory over Navy, she had a match-best 19 kills along with nine digs and two assists.
Belmont is 1-5 after being swept at the UTSA Invitational this past weekend. During the opening weekend of volleyball action, junior libero Jamie Lundstrom was named the OVC adidas Defensive Player of the Week. She was named to the all-tournament team after pacing the Belmont defense with 49 digs, including a career-high 22 against Alabama A&M.
Montana State is 4-1 after consecutive wins in Akron last weekend against Quinnipiac and the host Zips. Senior setter Jennifer Lundquist dished out 36 assists and added nine digs, five kills, two aces and a block to pace the Bobcats. For her efforts, Lundquist was named the tournament's most valuable player
Theis in Fifth Season Ohio Head Coach Ryan Theis is in his fifth season with the Bobcats in 2012. In his four years at the helm of the program, the Bobcats have gone 97-43, including a 51-13 record in MAC regular season play. In 2009-10, Theis led Ohio to consecutive NCAA Tournament Second Round appearances for only the second time in program history. The Bobcats have also captured the MAC's Eastern Division title all four seasons under Theis.
Preseason All-MAC Choices Ohio's Lexie Hartnett, Chelsea Bilger and Kelly Lamberti were all selected to the Mid-America Conference's Preseason All-East Division Team. The All-MAC Teams, voted on by the league's head coaches, featured 12 players with Ohio having the most honorees.
Lamberti finished her first season, second in the league in point scoring behind MAC Player of the Year Lauren Wicinski. The freshman also ranked second in kills, fifth in service aces and led Ohio in double-doubles with 19.
Hartnett received All-MAC honors for a second time last season after helping Ohio rank 19th in the nation in blocks per set. She ranked third in the MAC in blocks per set and placed second with 117.0 total blocks.
Bilger was named to the All-MAC Freshman team last season after recording 13 double-doubles for the Bobcats, eight in conference play. She ranked second on the team in kills and third in points and digs.
MAC Poll Ohio Volleyball was selected to win the Mid-American Conference's East Division as the league announced the 2012 Preseason Poll as voted on by the league's head coaches. The Bobcats have captured the Eastern Division every year since 2002 and have won the outright league title five times during that span.
USA Developmental Trip for Two Bobcats This summer, two Ohio Volleyball players, Bilger and Lamberti, traveled to China for the Bring It Promotions/USA Volleyball Global Challenge. The duo were part of a team that played six matches over 13 days against three of China's top professional teams.
The two Bobcats were selected, along with student-athletes from Northern Illinois, Clemson, Minnesota, Villanova, Arkansas and Virginia Tech to comprise the developmental squad (USA Red) for six matches, three in Tianjin and three in Beijing. Succeeding in the Classroom The Ohio University volleyball team was awarded an American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 school year. Ohio Volleyball had a cumulative GPA of 3.72 for the 2011-12 academic year and was one of the top schools nationally.
Ohio has had at least three players recognized on the MAC All-Academic Team for the past five seasons and had a record four first-team selections back in 2008. Eight different players have been named to a MAC All-Academic team over the last four years.
