ATHENS, Ohio – For the second-straight week, Ohio University graduate middle blocker Alexis Pinson was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week after another superior performance at the net.
It marks the third time this season that Pinson has earned the league honor.
Pinson enjoyed one of her best all-around weekends of the season during Ohio’s road swing through Kent and Ypsilanti. The graduate middle blocker led Ohio defensively with 1.38 blocks/set while also contributing 1.12 digs/set.
Offensively, Pinson dazzled with a combined .444 hitting percentage while averaging a team-high 3.8 points/set and 3.0 kills/set. In Thursday’s contest at Kent State, Pinson led Ohio with six total blocks and 13 kills. She hit .423 in the match while chipping in four digs and a service ace.
In Saturday’s win at Eastern Michigan, Pinson notched five total blocks and five digs while contributing 11 kills and hitting a team-high .474.
The Phoenix, Ariz., native ranks second in the MAC in blocks/set (1.42) and is 10th nationally in the category. She also is fifth in the league in hitting percentage (.345) and fourth in service aces/set (0.40) in conference matchups.
Ohio returns to action this weekend with a pair of home matches against MAC West foes. The Bobcats face Toledo Friday at 7 p.m. and match up with Ball State Saturday at 7 p.m. inside the Convocation Center.
