ATHENS, Ohio-Ohio seniors Ellen Herman and Sarah Petrulis were named Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, by the league office Monday. Ohio swept Kent State and took a four-set decision over Eastern Michigan in a pair of road affairs last week.
Herman, who shared Player of the Week honors with Miami’s Andrea Atteberry, hit a superb .340 for the week with 39 kills (5.57 per set) with two assists and two aces. She combined that with a 13 dig, seven block performance on the defensive end to go with 45.0 points (6.43 per set). Herman had her ninth double-double of the season with 26 kills and 10 digs in the win over Eastern Michigan. Herman's 45 points also made her Ohio's career leader in the category as she now sports 2004.5 points.
Petrulis is now just 66 digs shy of 1,000 for her career after posting 34 this week (4.86 per set). She also had five assists and pair of aces on the offensive end, while registering a kill in her only attempt.
Ohio returns home this weekend for 7 p.m. matches with Buffalo (Friday) and Akron (Saturday). Saturday’s match will be Senior Night.
