ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio University sophomore setter Abby Gilleland has been named the 2013 MAC Player of the Year, the league office announced Thursday.

The eighth MAC Player of the Year in school history and the second straight for Ohio, Gilleland also earned MAC Setter of the Year honors and was named to the All-MAC First Team after putting together an outstanding regular season. The Bull Valley, Ill., native is the first MAC Setter of the Year in program history.

In addition to Gilleland, three other Bobcats were named to the All-MAC First Team, including graduate middle blocker Alexis Pinson (Phoenix, Ariz.), junior outside hitter Kelly Lamberti (Cary, Ill.) and sophomore middle blocker Karin Bull (Bloomington, Minn.). It marks the first time since 2009 that Ohio has had four student-athletes named to the All-MAC First Team.

Lamberti – the 2012 MAC Player of the Year – earns All-MAC honors for the second time in her career, while Pinson and Bull garner the accolade for the first time.

Freshman outside hitter Katie Horton (Westland, Mich.) also was recognized Thursday by the league, as she was one of five student-athletes named to the All-MAC Freshman Team.
