AVCA All-Region Full Release

ATHENS, Ohio - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Tuesday that Ohio University sophomore setter Abby Gilleland (Bull Valley, Ill.) and junior outside hitter Kelly Lamberti (Cary, Ill.) have been named to the Northeast All-Region Team.

In addition, graduate middle blocker Alexis Pinson (Phoenix, Ariz.) garnered all-region honorable mention accolades.

Gilleland and Lamberti were the only non-Big Ten Conference student-athletes named to the Northeast All-Region Team.

It marks the first time in program history that multiple Bobcats have earned multiple AVCA All-Region honors. The last Ohio student-athlete named all-region was Ellen Herman in 2009.

"I'm extremely proud of Abby, Kelly and Alexis on earning this elite honor from the AVCA," head coach Ryan Theis said. "Their outstanding efforts all season long were a big reason why we had such an excellent year."

Abby Gilleland - Sophomore, Setter (Bull Valley, Ill.)
Gilleland recently wrapped up a stellar sophomore campaign in which she became the first student-athlete in Ohio history to be named both MAC Player of the Year and MAC Setter of the Year. A three-time MAC East Offensive Player of the Week, Gilleland commanded the league's most efficient offense, which ranked in the top-25 nationally in hitting percentage.

She ranked third in the MAC in assists/set (10.79) and hitting percentage (.347) in conference matches and hit a solid .343 against nationally ranked teams in 2013. During the pre-season, the Bull Valley, Ill., native was named the Oregon Classic MVP and also garnered Michigan Invitational All-Tournament honors. She posted 11 double-doubles on the year.

Kelly Lamberti - Junior, Outside Hitter (Cary, Ill.)
Lamberti provided Ohio's primary attack in 2013 and shined in that role during a season in which she earned First Team All-MAC honors. She ranked eighth in the league with 3.14 kills/set and ranked second on the Bobcats with 2.80 digs/set. The Cary, Ill., posted a team-leading 14 double-doubles on the year and performed well above her season average in kills/set (3.58) and hitting percentage (.270) against nationally-ranked teams. She was named MAC East Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 7 and earned Oregon Classic All-Tournament honors during the preseason.

Alexis Pinson - Graduate Student, Middle Blocker (Phoenix, Ariz.)
Pinson made the most of her graduate season in Athens, as the middle blocker ranked in the top-25 nationally in blocks/set while earning First Team All-MAC honors. A four-time MAC East Defensive Player of the Week selection, Pinson led the league in hitting percentage (.359) during conference matches and averaged an impressive 1.53 blocks/set while hitting .343 against nationally-ranked teams. Her 145 block assists are second-most in Ohio single season history while her 160 total blocks are fourth-most all-time at Ohio.

As All-Region selections, Gilleland and Lamberti are both eligible for AVCA All-American recognition. The organization's All-America selections will be announced next week.
