BUFFALO, N.Y. - Junior Juli Accurso became just the fifth individual in Mid-American Conference history to win back-to-back individual league titles as she won the 6-kilometer race to pace the Ohio University women's cross country team to a third-place finish Saturday at Beaver Island State Park.
Ohio's third-place finish was the Bobcats' best finish since 2008. The Bobcats finished with 92 points.
Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) claimed the league title by finishing in a time of 20:48.4. Her first-place finish marked the fourth this season in which she has finished in the top three. Sophomore Morgan Reichert (Pataskala, Ohio) also turned in a strong finish as she finished in a time of 21:59.1.
"Everybody came out to perform today, which is always great to see," said head coach Clay Calkins. "We are very happy with the team performance. The team is moving in the right direction which is very exciting for track and the future in general. Julie (Accurso) did exactly what she had to do and I can't say enough about her."
Junior Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) also turned in a strong performance as she placed 12th, finishing in a time of 22:02.2 Accurso (First Team), Reichert (Second Team) and Thompson (Second Team) each tallied All-Conference performances.
"Everyone ran so hard out there today and we have a lot to look to this spring," Accurso said. "I am just so proud to represent to Ohio University and to come across the finish line first was just such a great feeling."
Ohio will take a week off from competition before heading off to the NCAA Regionals in Madison Wisc.
