BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Senior Juli Accurso became the first runner in Mid-American Conference history to win three straight individual league titles as she claimed the 6-kilometer race in a time of 20:37.46 on Saturday.
The race was held at the Forrest Creason Golf Course on the campus of Bowling Green State University.
Accurso's (Casstown, Ohio) winning performance paced the Ohio University women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish. The Bobcat women concluded the event with a total of 120 points.
"It was definitely a goal of mine," Ohio's Juli Accurso said. "I thought about two things throughout the entire summer. The first was winning MAC as a team. That is what we worked toward every single day. Unfortunately we had some injuries that came late in the season so we weren't able to accomplish that, but I knew to contribute to the team and reach that goal, I wanted to win because that is what I was capable of. It's a really great feeling to have accomplished this."
Her first-place finish marks the third time she has finished in the top 5 this season.
Sophomores Krista Roehlig (Green, Ohio) and Caroline Hildebrand (Hilliard, Ohio) also posted strong performances as they placed 22nd (22:03.93) and 29th (22:18.29), respectively.
Miami University won the overall team title, finishing with 45 points.
Ohio will have 13 days to prepare for the NCAA Regionals, which will be held in Madison, Wisc.
