ATHENS, Ohio - Former Ohio Track and Field standouts Craig Leon and Abigail Swift will try and take one big step toward representing their country at the 2012 Olympics this weekend. On Saturday, Jan. 14, USA Track & Field and the Houston Marathon Committee will host the men’s and women’s Olympic Trials Marathon.

This historic event will determine the three men and three women who will represent the United States in the marathon at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and will give the sport’s fans and media unprecedented access to one of the most prestigious marathons on the U.S. calendar.

"Saturday marks the official start of the Olympic year, with the US Olympic Marathon Trials," Leon said. "Fellow former Bobcat, Abigail Swift and I, will both be running. The race will air on NBC, Saturday, from 3-5 p.m. You can get live race updates by heading to the Team Run Eugene facebook page Saturday morning and I'll be posting stuff to my website leading up to the race: www.craigleonrunning.com."

The event begins at 8 a.m. CST with the start and finish lines located on Avenida de las Americas in front of the George R. Brown Convention Center. The course itself will see qualifiers run counterclockwise completing a 2.2-mile loop and then north on Avenida de las Americas back toward the start line. The course will then run the eight-mile loop route counterclockwise three times to complete the 26.2-mile marathon which concludes at the finish line on Avenida de las Americas.
