ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University cross country student-athlete Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) has been named the MAC Women’s Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
It marks the fourth time in her historic career that Accurso has earned the honor. She’s received the accolade three times for cross country and once for outdoor track & field.
Accurso shined for Ohio at the Wake Forest Invitational - placing third out of 68 runners in an extremely competitive field - while helping Ohio finish second at the meet. Her time of 21:05 put her in front nine of the 11 runners from Florida State, the No. 2-ranked team in the nation. She paced all runners from Wake Forest and Miami (Ohio), which ranked No. 13 in the Southeast Region and ninth in the Great Lakes Region, respectively.
In her Ohio career, Accurso has captured USTFCCCA All-America honors on three occasions, won the MAC Cross Country title twice and is a five-time, First Team All-MAC honoree.
A three-time, First Team Academic All-MAC pick, Accurso was named to the Capital One Academic All-America third team in June and garnered USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic Team accolades in 2012.
She maintains a 3.88 cumulative GPA while pursuing a double major in French and linguistics.
Accurso is the second Ohio student-athlete to earn MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors this fall, as sophomore Abby Gilleland (volleyball) garnered the recognition on Sept. 4
