ATHENS, Ohio - Coming off a 15-day break, the Ohio University women's cross country team will head to Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday to compete in the 2013 Pre-National Invitational.
The team will compete in the 6-kilometer Blue Race, which is set to begin at 11:40 a.m. This year, the Blue Race will feature 51 teams. Among the 51 teams in the Blue Race, 13 are currently ranked in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Poll.
Last year, senior Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) was the top Ohio finisher as she placed 13th. Accurso finished the 6-kilometer race in a time of 20:15.6. Fellow senior Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) was the next Ohio finisher as she came in 93rd, clocking a time of 21:31.
The `Cats will look to improve upon their 24th-place finish from a year ago.
In its last time out, Ohio took 16th in the Notre Dame Invitational - an event that featured six schools that were ranked in the USTFCCCA Division I Poll.
Accurso paced the Bobcats at the UND Invitational as she placed 28th in a time of 17:41.3. Sophomore Kayla Scott (Canal Winchester, Ohio) and junior Morgan Reichert (Pataskala, Ohio) were the next Bobcat finishers as they placed 81st (18:20.5) and 82nd (18:20.3) overall.
