ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio men's and women's cross country teams are competing in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, hosted by Purdue University, in West Lafayette, Ind. on Saturday. The women will run a 6K beginning at 11 a.m. ET, followed by the men's 10K at 11:45 a.m.
The women are currently ranked eighth in the Great Lakes Region in the latest poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. They are one spot behind Akron and four spots behind MAC Champion Miami.
Ohio's Annie Beecham (Granville, Ohio) claimed the MAC individual title on Nov. 1 with a MAC-record time of 16:56.8 in the 5K. Three-time MAC Runner of the Week and fellow junior Kari Summers (Troy, Ohio) earned runner-up honors with the third-best time in school history. Both runners garnered first-team All-MAC accolades for their performances, the second-consecutive year for Beecham and third-consecutive for Summers. The MAC also honored Beecham with the Female Scholar Athlete of the Week award on Nov. 6 that she shared with Miami golfer Martina Gavier.
For the men, senior Shamus Eaton (Uniontown, Ohio) placed eighth at the MAC Championships, earning him a second-team All-MAC nod for his season-best time. Junior Ridge Robinson (Navarre, Ohio) finished 23rd, his best-ever finish in the conference championship meet.
